Workouts of Late

This week, I am down 1.8 pounds.

I’ve collected quite a few sweaty selfies of late thanks to my fitness Instagram- Stronger with Caitlin. Here’s a few of them, along with what I’ve been doing for my workouts lately.

Lots of running.

Summer into fall is my absolute favorite time to run and I always pick up my pace and length once the weather cools down just a bit. Of course, I try to run outside in the winter, but it’s never for as long. I also detest the treadmill and cannot go for miles unless I’m somehow in a trance-like state.

I’m excited to see how fast and far I can go now that I’m dropping a few extra pounds. I’ve been listening to a lot of podcasts, ranging from True Crime to Disney World themed, during my workouts, although I’ll always return to my favorite playlists and upbeat musicals when I just want to cruise.

I’ve also been a sweaty mess during my strength training workouts, which I do three times a week. I try to add 15-20 minutes of faster cardio to the end or throughout. My cardio of choice on these days has been jump roping. It’s such a great workout that you don’t have to suffer through for an extended amount of time. I like to do a set of jumps 50-100 after each set of exercises to get the heart rate UP.

In conclusion, I aim for six days a week of challenging workouts. 3 running days and 3 strength training days. Thus far, I’ve been enjoying the results.

Stay-tuned for the fall when I’ll be mixing things up!

work it on out

After my long weekend away, last weekend, I was ready to hit the gym…kind of.

It was a vacation of indulgence between the vineyards, Ghirardelli, and In-n-Out, which is all well and good (except for my stomach) and we did our fair share of walking, but I was ready to return to normal.

When I did get back, I was up and early for the Red Sox/Angels day game in Anaheim and I wasn’t sure if I was going to make it back in time for the gym, coupled with the fact I didn’t touchdown in LA until 2 the previous morning. However, it was still late afternoon when I got back from the game (boo, we lost!), so I revved myself up to go!

I wasn’t feeling my routine of late, so I worked through a standard total body workout targeting all the major muscle groups and finished with a half hour on the bike. It was good to work up a sweat.

That night, it was time to rejuvenate my workout routine. I’ve been doing total body lately, so this time, I broke it down into a split routine.

Workout Routine

Always gotta get in that core!

I’m a big fan of breaking up leg day like upper body workouts. I still feel the pain of my efforts, but I can target the muscle groups more effectively without tiring too much. Currently, I’m feeling the beautiful repercussions of mixing up my routine with those DOMS all over and a twinge in my core every time I laugh or sneeze.

when in LA…

Go to Chili’s?

It’s funny what you crave far from home and I was not alone! Before we get to that though, let’s start with Friday night post-work with a sweaty workout that I’ll feature later on in the week.

Sweat and the bright orange background is no friend to my dauntingly light eyebrows.

I had leftover pizza and salad for dinner, watched some Sex and the City, and fell into a deep sleep that was thankfully and finally a full night’s sleep! For whatever reason, I’ve been waking up between 3-5:30 am and unable to fall back into a peaceful sleep. What a pain!

On Saturday morning, I made pancakes and I think I’m getting better!

Okay, yes, the above is an old picture of pancakes, but only because I was hungry and dug in before I remembered to take a picture!

After some lounging, digesting, and hydrating, I walked over to the gym ready to crush it once again. It was hot and the AC was minimal, so I was sweaty from the beginning. Like, gross, by the end.

It’s hard to tell from the picture, but I was soaked to the bone. On the walk home, I stopped into a local spot for an iced coffee to cool me down.

At home, I showered, ate a quick lunch, and spent some quality time updating my blog. This is a work-in-progress that is going to take some time, but I’m determined to continue updating on the regular and making givememycrownalready more aesthetically pleasing.

Which takes us to the aforementioned Chili’s pit-stop. The last time I went there was with my sister the night we got our latest tattoos and the newest Harry Potter book that wasn’t a Harry Potter book because she didn’t even write it….howcouldyoudothistomeJo?

Anyway, Saturday night, I went to Chili’s with some friends and it was delicious.

Sunday morning began with crepes- kind of- and a workout that went between running and strength training, meaning that once again, I was a sweaty mess (but in the best possible way.

After, I went to the beach with my cousin.

It was hot, but not one of those days that I wanted to get into the water. Instead, I just stewed.

Once we had our fill of sunshine, it was time to celebrate National Ice Cream Day…

A warm glazed donut stuffed with delicious ice cream. Oh my. I’ll still be daydreaming about it come Monday.

I’ve Just Been Collecting Food Pics

Hi! I’ve been a bad blogging lady lately and I have no excuses. I’m back with a vengeance and a ton of pictures of food as my trojan horse back into your hearts.

Let’s start with this smoothie I threw together before work one day when I was hungry but didn’t feel up to eating (a rarity for certain). This bad boy includes ice, half a banana, spinach, strawberries, a scoop of chocolate peanut butter, greek yogurt, and a mixture of milk and water. Note to self: smoothies look far nicer in glasses than in the blender you mix it in.

A protein-powered waffle smothered in peanut butter and jelly and plated prettily with chopped banana.

My most frequently eaten breakfasts as of the past few months: a scrambled egg and egg whites with cheese, toast, and a medley of fruit.

This morning’s egg and egg-white omelette with cheese and ham, a blueberry english muffin, and fruit.

Moving onto lunches, we’ll start with a packed salad and turkey burger. When it came to eating, I think I enjoyed the salad separate from the turkey burger I stuffed in a small whole wheat pita with hummus.

Leftover turkey burger with a side of veggie-filled pasta salad I made a huge batch of for lunches. Recipe to come tomorrow!

A chopped salad with grilled chicken. The colors speak for themselves.

I’ve got one picture of dinner to share. Whoops. Turkey burger, salad, and fresh corn.

A few pictures to prove I’ve still been getting my sweat on. Side planking.

Post-run glamour shot. It’s been H-O-T.

A picture to prove that not all fit bodies are the same (in response to the super model who tried to body shame another woman at a gym of all places).

Keep it real, folks! I’ve got a recipe and some big news to share coming up this week.

Go Ahead And Ask Me How The Red Sox Did

Really baseball? I was so excited about the start of the season, in yesterday’s post I wrote, “At least I have baseball,” and what happened? Baseball was cancelled! It wasn’t that Monday was a bad day so much as it was an off one for me. Weird, not terrible but not great things happened and I was in a bit of a funk, which I think is to be expected. The snow certainly didn’t help, nor did the POSTPONEMENT of the baseball season thanks to a bit of cold (it could have been freezing, I don’t even know).

I at least did get a good amount of writing in during the day, which rarely happens. I just have to be consistent with it. Once I trekked through the snow to the gym, I fit in a killer tricep, chest, core workout before work. Always helps to get a sweat on.

Anyways, today is a new day and I’m bursting out of my funk! Here’s a food pic!

This lovely revelation was last night’s dinner, consisting of pulled pork, brown rice, zucchini, peppers, and spinach. Delicious!

Here, have another! This morning’s breakfast was a heaping bowl of warm oats to fuel me through my early morning run and workday.

Dare I say, Go Red Sox!? (Or is it still to chilly for the big bad boys of baseball?)
