Spiralizing Queen

If it’s a vegetable, I will spiralize it. So maybe I’m a little late to the vegetable noodle game, but my mom and I have embraced the madness and our lives are forever changed. I mean, maybe zucchini noodles just seem more fun than the simply chopped zucchini coins, but the taste seems to have been upped too. It could be scientific, might not be. You can either challenge me, or just spiralize it up too!

Monday means meal prep day, especially considering that Tuesday is a long one, and I got to cooking (and spiralizing) up a storm to make sure I fit in all my nutrients. First up, zucchini! I lo-ove zucchini. There’s an insane amount of zucchinis in my fridge and they will all be eaten within the week.

It’s a beautiful thing! Side note: I started watching How I Met Your Mother in full and so far, it’s been an excellent life choice.

Next, we find the startling creature: the sweet potato.

I tossed each separately into pans with garlic and olive oil.

That’s all the zucchini needed, but I did a little more for the sweet potato and created a recipe I am excited to share with you all in the near future! *I can’t give away too much in just one post!

Final creations of meals are to come, but the options are endless!

Now onto the weekend: After work on Saturday, I met up with my friend Alison to get lunch and then headed to the gym with my sister and brother-in-law to fit in a butt kicking workout. We just ran through a quick total body strength circuit before I hopped on the treadmill for an interval run. Almost fell off trying to watch the Red Sox on the TV screen to the right of me, but I kept my stride!

Sunday included a double-header softball games that led to one of my fears coming true! I play catcher, but since this is a slow-pitch league, there is no equipment, and I took one off the head! It all seemed to happen so fast and I didn’t have time to protect myself, but thankfully, the bruise is covered by my hairline and I don’t think I was concussed. It was scary and I was in a bit of shock as I walked off the field. The wooziness a little later was more from the tequila I enjoyed with lunch than any side effects of my injury, probably.

And yeah, of course, I had to snapchat this moment. I was a wounded warrior!

The rest of the day was spent being productive, doing laundry and writing up all the workouts for my clients for the week. I also did a fair bit of writing, which felt so good! Now onto Monday and figuring out what to concoct with all those veggies!

You Can’t Face Swap With Your Dog

Hello party people, it’s Friday! The weekend forecast isn’t looking too promising come Sunday, but I am determined to be positive and have a great weekend.

I have some weird stories and pictures to share with you all today, so I hope you cherish the ridiculous. First, I woke up later than I wanted to on Wednesday as I was covering for someone at work and had to eat breakfast on the go. This is all well and fine, except, I was hankering for waffles and thought they could be portable if I ate it more like a piece of toast than cut up in usual waffle-style. I’ve actually done this before, so I was feeling good until I must have over maple syruped the waffles and the maple syrup dripped everywhere! My steering wheel may never be the same, nor will the inside of my jacket sleeves. I also smelled like maple syrup the rest of the day. Yay, me! *I could have smelled a lot worse!

A couple of nights ago, I finally realized how to use the face swap filter on Snapchat and it did not disappoint- except that I’ve been trying to face swap with my dog and it won’t work. Here’s option one between my mom and me.

Kinda spooky, not at all flattering, but overall hilarious.

Second option, I can’t even preface:

I kept some of my childhood dolls over the years and decided to have some fun yesterday morning to see if it would work. It did, except, as you can see, my face maintained that weird, creepy smile so everything just went bananas. I disturbed myself with this photo. I’m sorry if you have nightmares tonight!

Now onto a workout recap! This week was 3 sets of 15 reps for each exercise with lower weight and it kicked butt! I used the same workout plans I did the past two weeks, six exercises for each body part, so the breakdown looked like this:

Monday- Biceps, Shoulders, and Core

Tuesday- Rest

Wednesday- Triceps, Chest, and Core

Thursday- Back, Legs, and Core

Friday- Total Body

For today’s workout, I incorporated a ton of moves with kettlebells and plyometrics, which means I really got that heart rate moving! I will be sharing that with you soon! On Wednesday, I also ran and will be heading out for another one tomorrow before the weather gets bad.

Next week’s reps and sets will be pyramid-focused so I’ll start at my highest amount of reps with lowest weight, decreasing the reps and increasing the weight as I go until I’m lifting my heaviest for 2 reps. I like to mix up the reps and sets to keep from plateauing and working my muscles in different ways. For instance, lower weight and longer reps works endurance, heavier weight and lower reps is what builds that strength and power.  Already feeling a little scared, but also excited.

Get moving this weekend and make sure you spend a lot of time with the people you love!

Sick of Me Yet?

I’ll be honest, this whole post a day thing is harder than I anticipated. Despite any challenges, I made a vow and cannot succumb to laziness on the second day.

Not much happened to me today because I had to sit through a 3-hour class, but I suppose it is important that I had a cookie, got rained on, and maneuvered myself to school in time to get a quick workout in before it closed at a new early time.

What part of me do I appreciate today? Cousin. All the snapchats I get a day from my cousins Erin and Mikey because they always make me laugh when I need it (and even when I don’t). So happy we’ve been spending more time together!
