I’m Allergic to Apples But I Still Eat Them

A real daredevil I am…

My weekend started early Friday afternoon when I got off work and finished up a killer workout. I ate lunch and cuddled up on the couch watching old episodes of Will and Grace with this guy.

That night, I went out to dinner with some work friends before heading to bed and preparing for another early morning at work.

Once I finished work on Saturday morning, my friend Stephanie picked me up to see our other college friends Erin and Katie. It’s been awhile since the four of us got together and we had a blast apple picking, laughing, and chatting.

And eating apples… I’m slightly allergic, so I stuck to one and felt fine. Erin for the photobomb win!

Even though it was not quite a fall day (hot!), we enjoyed being outside and snacked on apple cider donuts.

That night, a few of us saw It, which was creepy and a little confusing, but fun! I’m ready for the Halloween season!

Sunday started like this.

IMG_2256.JPG

Kittens apparently do not have sense of personal space.

After grocery shopping with mom, I whipped up some french bread pizzas for a game day lunch.

IMG_2254.JPG

Both the Red Sox and Patriots had come-from-behind wins and though I’d prefer them just to do well from the beginning, those types of games are more exciting.

When the sun went down a bit and the air cooled, I headed to the track to fit in a 3-mile run. I started re-watching Big Little Lies because my mom hasn’t seen it yet and it’s still amazing.

Now we’re back to Monday- make it a great one to kick off this week!

Life After…

Coming back to a normal routine after death is a challenge. Bandit was such a fixture in my everyday life and I keep waiting for him to come around the corner, meow, or be lounging around on one of our beds or couches. The last week was a blur, but I kept busy with work and other things. It’s strange to be in mourning, yet keep going and finding a new normal. I wasn’t feeling especially inspired to blog last week because somehow logging my meals didn’t feel right when I was so sad. And I didn’t want to keep harping on the point. Things around here will be consistent again.

It’s funny because while something so devastating has happened, other parts of my life are coming together. I am happy to announce that I will be starting to put my Personal Training certificate to good use officially! It’s so great to get to inspire people and help them find health and happiness.

Heading back to the weekend, it was packed, starting with Thursday. My workout included two kettlebell circuits with a friend before I hopped on the treadmill for a walk/run/sprint session. After work, I went out for Mexican with my friend Molly. I selected the steak fajita salad that had tasty grilled steak over greens with peppers, tomatoes, and cheese. Yum! We stopped for ice cream before heading home, despite how cold it was. Note: It is never too cold for ice cream. I will always persevere. I hadn’t seen Molly in so long so it was great to catch up!

On Friday, my day started with a crushing Spin class and some at-home Yoga. After my shift, I headed out for an impromptu dinner with a few of my co-workers. I haven’t laughed that hard in a long time and I really needed it.

Saturday morning, my alarm got my heart racing because I had been in a deep sleep. Once I’m up, I don’t mind the morning shift, but it was hard pulling myself out of bed in the dark! When my shift ended, I fit in my workout that was a total body strength session. With muscles burning (in the best of ways), I met my parents and grandma for lunch before the semi-storm. The storm that never really was, at least to Boston standards, was calming in a sense as we all were bundled up inside, watching the Bruins and then Inside Out. There’s something special about sleeping in a warm bed when you know the snow is falling outside.

I can’t say that Sunday wasn’t a disappointment, at least when it comes to the Patriots. Neither team played particularly great, except the Broncos’ defense, but I always expect them to pull it off in the end, so it was a shock when they lost. The social aspect of the game was still fun. I went with my friends Nouha and Sarah to a local bar for some nachos, wings, and beers, then back to Nouha’s couch to lounge on the couch and watch the crushing loss. To ease our sorrowed hearts, we played a few rounds of a card game then got absorbed in some of those Buzzfeed personality quizzes. Sometimes, they are spot on, it’s weird.

I won’t feel guilty about all the indulging, especially on Sunday, because I did have a kicks workout, including a body strength circuit and a run. But I will say, I am very much looking forward to healthy eating today as I don’t love the feeling of being overly stuffed. Whew.

Now we’re back to Monday morning. Hope everyone survived the storm in their neck of the woods. Let’s make this week a good one!

Bones, Moon, Friends, Family, and Fun: Weekend Update

Hello and Happy Monday! I’m spending my morning memorizing bones in the human body. I’ve made a ton of progress in studying anatomy- as it pertains to personal training- and I have my friend Nouha to thank! Let’s recap the weekend to find out how.

I was unable to truly appreciate National Pancake Day on Saturday because I opened at work. I had to make due with some peanut butter toast and a banana.

Not that I’m complaining because it was still a great meal!

After work, I headed over to Nouha’s house where she tutored me on some of the more harrowing subjects, mainly, the nervous system and skeletal system. While my textbook offered me a good amount of information, I was coming into it without a lot of knowledge, so I needed someone to help fill in the gaps and talk it out with me to make sense. I’m feeling a lot better about it now!

For lunch, we feasted on rotisserie chicken sandwiches, which I enjoyed with some cheese and mustard and a handful of tostitos. Thanks for your wisdom, Nouha!

By the time I got home, my legs were itching to go. Motivated from my great run last weekend, I was hoping I could work that magic again. Success! I headed down to a local track and took off for what ended up being a 7 mile run. I felt strong and proud, especially by the end, and I think I could have gone on a bit longer had I not had plans that night. I ended with a sprint for the last leg of the lap.

The one thing I will say about running that sucks is how it leaves sores all over my body. This includes chafing- which didn’t happen thanks to my leggings!- and the points where my body rubs against the lines of my panties and bra. I don’t feel it during the run, but after it’s a bear. I need to research better ways to avoid/heal this phenomena, but if anyone has any recommendations, please let me know! As I grow stronger in running and realize that I can make it through longer runs, I’m wanting to go further with it and a lack of pain will be an enormous help!

For my recovery meal, I had dinner with my friend Rachel and indulged in a delicious cheeseburger. I took off the bun for the second half of it and enjoyed with a veggie-ful salad on the side. I didn’t want to detriment my gains so badly, but I was raring for that burger!

It was cold on Saturday night and I was more than happy to cuddle up under the covers with the chill seeping out of the window. Maybe that’s why I’m feeling a little sniffley today…

Sunday morning, I was up for grocery shopping. Before that, however, it was time to celebrate National Pancake Day a little belatedly with this plate of peanut butter goodness.

With the groceries put away, I also folded laundry and chopped some veggies for dinner to throw into the crockpot before I went out to lunch with my mom. We ended up at a bar in a local pizza place to watch Tom Brady land his 400th touchdown pass- no big deal. Along with pumpkin beers, we shared honey chipotle wings and a red pepper pizza. Go Pats!

Back at home, I set up in the backyard for a study session. Out of the direct sun, I actually had to throw on a sweatshirt. To get in some extra steps as it was my rest day, we walked the dog some more before dinner.

Chicken cacciatore was on the menu and cooking for the majority of the day in the crockpot. It included tender chicken that fell right off the bone, a medley of bell peppers, mushrooms, and onion- which I actively ate around because I hate them. Some broccoli and angel hair pasta rounded out the meal.

I was in the shower when I got the call about the moon, so I tossed on some warm clothes and headed out to see what the fuss was. I had high expectations, and it was pretty cool, though I thought the moon might look a little redder. It was fun to congregate out in the street and backyard by the fire pit to watch.

IMG_4016

Seemed a lot closer when watching in person.

This morning, I woke up and made myself some breakfast. Today’s choice was an omelet with cheese and chicken sausage. I paired it with two whole wheat waffles and a big bowl of fruit. Notice how I’m rocking the Halloween mug in the corner.

For the rest of the day, I have a workout and studying before work. Hope everyone enjoys another great week!

It’s Food Time

It’s hard to believe that it’s already Monday because this long weekend flee by! I almost forgot to post for the week, but no worries, I remembered!Oatmeal is always a great start to the week! I particularly enjoy mine warmed over the stove top, swirled with peanut butter and lots of fruit.

2015/01/img_1032.jpg

I’m finding an egg and cheesestick is a perfect start for a morning workout. It’s enough to get those engines running without being overly filling. After, I enjoyed an egg sandwich that hit the spot!

2015/01/img_1036.jpg

It was another eggy start the next morning before going after some peanut butter toast. There’s nothing better than a warm, toasty breakfast on a cold morning.

2015/01/img_1040.jpg

I’ve learned the secret to scrambled eggs and it’s cottage cheese. It makes it so creamy and cheesy. Buttered toast and some fruit make the meal.

2015/01/img_1044.jpg

More oatmeal for a Friday morning, but this time with the luxury of toasted coconut. I’m not certain why it’s so good, but it is.

2015/01/img_1047.jpg

My first weekend morning breakfast were these poached eggs over toast with fruit. Delicious!

2015/01/img_1050.jpg

More toast and toasted coconut made a quick breakfast on Sunday morning. Simply excellent!

2015/01/img_0071.jpg

Finally, I found time to make my favorite peanut butter pancakes. This time I stuffed them with pomegranate seeds and they were amazing!

2015/01/img_0066.jpg

Soup and salad was on the menu on Monday morning. I’m both excited and nervous to realize that my grocery store sells Panera soup!

2015/01/img_1033.jpg

Leftover chicken pot pie with a serving of veggies made a great, quick lunch that came together seamlessly.

2015/01/img_1037.jpg

More leftovers, but this time it’s pizza and a salad I chopped quickly. Roasted red pepper pizza is the best kind of pizza.

2015/01/img_1041.jpg

Oh, look, more leftovers. This time, I went with a beautiful, fresh salad and a dish of macaroni and cheese. Gosh, do I love this Mac and cheese.

2015/01/img_1051.jpg

2015/01/img_1045.jpg

This sandwich was pretty okay. It’s a whole wheat pita stuffed with chicken, cheese, spinach, and tomato with a side of veggie sticks and popcorn.

2015/01/img_1048.jpg

After a hot yoga class, my friend Nouha and I went to Whole a Foods to grab lunch from the hot bar. I stuffed my plate with lots of veggies, macaroni and cheese, and chipotle lime chicken.

2015/01/img_1049.jpg

On Sunday, we went out for lunch with my Grandma. I got a burger and must have been hungry because I forgot to snap a picture.

For dinners, we started the night with a homemade chicken pot pie, corn, and some French fries.

2015/01/img_1034.jpg

Before going to my screenwriter’s class, I made a quick stir fry out of ingredients we already had in the fridge. It included chicken, veggies, rice, and some BBQ sauce.

2015/01/img_1038.jpg

My sister and her fiancé came over for a delicious, special dinner on Wednesday night. We enjoyed some short ribs, macaroni and cheese, and lots of roasted veggies.

2015/01/img_1042.jpg

This was kind of a weird assortment of foods for dinner. Grilled tilapia, a sausage, macaroni and cheese, and veggies.

2015/01/img_1046.jpg

It was a very special dinner celebration on Friday night when we celebrated my cousin Maura’s birthday! With amazing people, we ate something delicious calzones, salad, and birthday cake!

2015/01/img_1043.jpg

For whatever reason, I was craving hot dogs for dinner on Saturday night after my run. To keep things a touch healthy, I steamed some spinach and zucchini.

2015/01/img_0065.jpg

To go along with a huge Patriot’s win on Sunday, we celebrated game day at my neighbors’ house with a ton of appetizers and desserts. Sorry I forgot a picture, I was too busy watching the Colts get hammered.

Until next week!
