Homesick in the City

It’s rare when it happens, but sometimes you need an unscheduled rest day! I was tired after work and was looking forward to going home, so I did. I know I’ll get back to it today, twice as hard, so I won’t sweat it (Ha! Punny).

I started my day with this bowl of oats:

Yesterday, I was feeling particularly homesick. When I keep busy it’s easy to forget, but in quiet moments, I remember how far away I am. I miss my people! On top of that, Facebook “reminded” me it was my birthday coming up and I should send out invitations to celebrate. Thanks a lot, Facebook, because I don’t have that many people out here to celebrate with, jerk face. I know I’ll still receive lots of love, but it’s not the same!

I also really miss fall in New England. It’s hot hot HOT here and everyone’s all “oh, it’s getting so chilly.” Insert side-eye emoji here. Yeah, I know, I’ll be one of those people in a few short months. But still. At least when it snows a lot back home, I’ll still be warm.

Driving Girl

…matches my comforter! This shows how coordinated I am with myself. My future may lie in a cross between interior decorating and fashion, except a person has an outfit for every item in his/her house. I lost interest in my own project/joke, sorry. Other than the horrifying smile upon my face, I think it comes together nicely.

In other news, I had every intention of waking up super early Thursday morning to fit in a workout, but I had first-day nerves and couldn’t fall asleep in time. I brought my workout clothes to go after, but then I decided it was time for a rest day as I haven’t had one in awhile. My GPS went bonkers when I tried to switch, but thankfully, I was close enough to my apartment that I navigated my way home successfully. I’ll call that a win!

Breakfast was cheesy eggs, toast, and lots of fruit.

Cheesy Business

We’ve made it to Thursday! The weekend is upon us, but hopefully, you’re still rocking this week. I had myself a pretty good Wednesday, what with nailing down a job, but the other parts of the day were pretty sweet too.

Especially this syrupy waffle from the morning. Paired with some fruit, it was perfection.

For lunch, I dug into more of my quinoa dish, chock full of black beans, corn, broccoli, orange pepper, feta, and soyaki.

I made myself a fancy dinner to celebrate last night. Not nearly as good as my mom’s, but I don’t make a terrible chicken parmesan. Vegetable medley and pasta on the side. One might say with too much cheese. But one would be wrong.

Exercise was a run, walk combination totaling 4.5 miles! I ran for a mile at a medium-fast pace, walked the difference between my mileage and 15 minutes, ran another mile at a faster pace, walked, then did it a third time. I ended up continuing on to complete more than 4 miles with running, and finishing off with a walk. A quick yoga session ended my workout and left me dripping in sweat, the way I love it!

Lots of writing occurred in the hours after and we finally installed wi-fi! Things are continuing to fall into place and though I still suspect challenges ahead, I’m keeping a positive mindset.
