My Washer/Dryer Is Trying to Kill Me, Among Other Things

It took exactly two weeks, but I’m happy to be back in the world of employment! A start to chasing those dreams.

On a side note, my washer/dryer is trying to kill me.

I know I’m lucky  to have a washer/dryer (it’s an all-in-one machine, which is strange in itself to this suburbia kid!), but the machine promises “quiet” and “effective” and all I hear are confusing, loud banging noises and it takes hours. I  have to leave my clothes in for a slow dry if I want them to dry at all. Ah, the markings of being an apartment renter! This isn’t Kansas anymore, kid! (But also, I’m thankful for not having grown up in Kansas, not that there’s anything wrong with it per say, but- I’m losing focus).

In summary, the washer/dryer is freaking loud and I think it is trying to kill me.

So how about Tuesday?

Things got moving early (and by early, I mean a lot of people would side-eye me for that comment if they knew what time I awoke) around here. After hopping in the shower, I enjoyed breakfast.

After spending the morning running around town, and by town, I mean Hollywood, I came home ready for lunch! Thank goodness for meal prep! Quinoa, black beans, corn, broccoli, orange pepper, and soyaki! A side of hummus and chips complemented flavors nicely.

Dinner was out with a classmate of mine from college who just happened to move to LA about a month before me. I can’t tell you how great it was to see a friendly, familiar face, especially one who is facing the same challenges and positives as me! For food, I had a cup of yummy chicken tortilla soup and a side of brussels sprout and bacon mash. I wasn’t sure what I was getting myself into with that dish, but it was just mashed potatoes with some chunks of sprouts and bacon. With cheese!

For a workout, I got things moving with a bicep, back, and core workout and finished with twenty minutes on the spin bike.

I’m feeling good! How ’bout you?

Sunday Productivity and Catch Up

Trauma left over from my school years means that I will always see Sundays as being that of productivity. Not that it’s such a bad thing because it means I get necessary chores done, such as laundry, cleaning, food prepping, etc. Rainy Sundays always inspire an extra edge to such productivity.

We start where we lead off, which to my best estimation, is Thursday morning! A homemade, whole grain waffle and a cup of Greek yogurt got things flowing. Notice the beauty of the chopped strawberries and banana!

My workout for Thursday included a few strength circuits using kettle bells and medicine balls, as well as a lap swim. It had been about two weeks since I swam laps due to the pool closing down for cleaning, but I felt strong! Had I more time, I would have attempted a mile and a half, but I stuck with my mile and felt wonderful.

Lunch was a heaping bowl of salad with leftover steak, veggies, and beans, with ranch and barbecue sauce drizzled on top. I also had leftover rice for a boost of carbs.

Dinner included these red pepper infused ravioli that I jazzed up with sundried tomato chicken meatballs, red pepper, and zucchini. I wasn’t much feeling marinara, so I added a pat of butter and cheese on top for extra flavoring.

Friday morning, I was up early to fit in a workout. I cannot tell you how much I adore morning workouts (once I’m fully awake and moving), but I also cannot tell you how hard it is to get up when you don’t have to. My workout consisted of dumbbell and plyometric circuit training. I was drenched in sweat and reaping the benefits of endorphins as I left the gym to start the rest of the day.

Oh, but look what I was met with on my way home from the gym! I told you turkeys roamed this area. They usually come in hordes, but this guy was on his own. Don’t worry, I came to a complete stop to 1. let him cross and 2. take this picture.

This egg sandwich topped with egg, chicken sausage, provolone, and jalapeños was a perfect recovery breakfast. Banana, strawberries, and blueberries complemented the flavors well.

Lunch happened while I was at work, so we ordered out. I selected this delicious chicken kebob greek salad that hit the spot. It was full of perfectly seasoned and moist grilled chicken, fresh veggies, and the added yumminess of feta and greek dressing.

I was in a weird mood on Friday when it came for dinner as all I wanted was French toast. I used some multigrain cinnamon raisin bread and topped the pieces with peanut butter and jelly and paired the delicacy with a banana. My French toast recipe just consists of an egg, almond milk, cinnamon, and a splash of vanilla. In the fall (SOON!), I add pumpkin to the batter for perfection on a plate.

Saturday was a busy day. I woke up before the sun to get to work, but not before enjoying a peanut butter toast breakfast.

Kind of looks exactly like my French toast dinner, but I can promise it was not even close to as fancy.

After work, I booked it home for a quick lunch of leftover ravioli before heading off to my hair appointment. No, I won’t debut my new hair quite yet because I haven’t showered yet- still haven’t ran today- so I will premiere it tomorrow!

With my hair all fresh and blonde(r), which by the way, has just forced people into calling me a red-head more frequently, I met my cousins to go to the One Direction concert. Woo! I thought I would know more songs, but the concert was mostly their new stuff. We still had a blast despite some drizzling. It was a fun cousin bonding time!

Oh, crap. I just realized I inadvertently premiered my hair after saying I wouldn’t yet. Okay, it was rainy and a little humid so my hair was frizzled. Don’t judge the cut (or blondness) just yet.

I woke up this morning to my mom calling me to go grocery shopping, but the most exciting part was that she had already made me poached eggs. I’m quite spoiled like that.

IMG_3894

While shopping, I picked up some cans of pumpkin (woo!) and this baby pumpkin for my desk that I named Spike. Spike is a character from Buffy the Vampire Slayer which I explained to my mom and she assumed he was a pumpkin…Fangs to come.

Lunch was a simple greek yogurt and an english muffin with peanut butter as I’m preparing for my run. I’ll have some sort of veggie dish for my recovery fuel after.

With a load of laundry in the mix, some reading already done, and these legs ready to take off, I’m having myself a great Sunday.

Cheers to yours!

Don’t Give Me That Look

Happy September! In the magical world, we would all be on the Hogwarts Express on our way to a new school year. Unfortunately, even if that all existed, I’d be too old at this point. Still worth mentioning.

Since it’s my day off, I decided it would be fine to sleep in just a little bit more than usual, but Bandit (my cat) was against this. He came into my room meowing his paws off because he wanted to be patted. So it’s more than a little hypocritical that while I was folding a load of laundry and singing along to my music that he glares up at me with such disdain. Oh, sorry. Were you trying to nap?

I started my day with this fine looking plate of pancakes. Berries on the side and banana mashed right in, it was the perfect balance of protein, carbs, fruit, and sweetness.

While enjoying breakfast, I started my reread of Tina Fey’s Bossypants. I know I technically kicked off my Harry Potter reread, but I think I’m going to delay that for awhile longer. There are a ton of new books coming out in September/October that I can’t wait to read! Bossypants came off my hold list, so I needed to attend to it now anyways. We’ll get to Harry, there’s no doubt, but it’s been awhile since I’ve had time to sit down to read and I need to make more time for it.

I’m hoping to get as much out of summer as I can in these next few days, including at least one beach day. I can’t talk about the end of summer until Labor Day passes at the very least. Now’s time to go fit in a strength workout before a day of studying.

Hope you have a great month!

Cat Naps

Woo-boy! Remember when I kept talking about all the snow we had this winter? Now    I feel like I keep talking about how hot it is! I prefer being cold to hot because you can easily fix that situation. This heat has just been stifling. My guess is that my newly acquired sniffles is a product of going between the heat and the air conditioning.

This morning, I was in desperate need of changing my sheets due to the sickliness, but my cat, Bandit was all curled up. I put in the extra effort to not bother him and got the sheets off without disturbing him and tossed them into my laundry basket…only to turn away for one second and find him lying in it!

IMG_2211

Since I’ll be away from the kitchen for the next few days, I decided to take advantage and make my pancakes for breakfast. I topped them with jelly and toasted coconut and served them up with berries galore!

IMG_3443

I headed to the gym for a brief, light workout to get back into things. I performed two sets of twenty reps of bicep curls, shoulder presses, tricep extensions, rows, front raises to shoulder raises, and bench presses. I moved onto body strength moves with four sets of ten reps of squats, lunges, kickbacks, push-ups, mountain climbers, and sit ups. After, I finished off with 15 minutes on the elliptical. It felt good to get moving, but I still wasn’t feeling up to my usual standards. Part of this could also be due to the heat.

For lunch, I threw together a quick salad and grilled up a hot dog for convenience before I needed to get to work. I had spent the afternoon packing and getting some chores done before I left.

For dinner, I enjoyed grilled chicken, rice, and green beans. Nice and simple on this very hot evening that required minimal cooking! Now I’m off to prepare for my trip. Check back in for the occasional recap!

Help, My Lip Is Growing and Other Weekend Adventures

In my world of weird, I fell into bed the other night after a long writing session. Sleep was calling to me and I was gladly falling for it until my lip started tingling.

You know that moment when you’re hovering between consciousness and being submerged in sleep? Everything feels distorted and you doubt the real ness of things. Well, at first, I thought my tingling lip was a figment on my imagination, but then I realized my upper lip was actually growing.

I don’t know if I bit it or what, but I had to get out of bed, pop a Bendryl to quell the swelling and make sure it wasn’t an allergic reaction to anything, ice it, and tell my mom in case it was something serious. When I woke up- thankfully- I still had a bad case of half of my upper lip being plump and the other a thin line. I seriously considered thinking this was going to be how I looked the rest of my life, thinking that all of my upper lip fat fell into one half of it. My mom’ slaughter assured me this was not the case.

IMG_0716.JPG

It’s not exactly how I wanted to look during my shopping trip, so I was glad after a couple minutes of straight icing brought it back down to normal.

To recap my weekend, I started off Friday with a workout and lunch out with my friend Molly. That night, I dedicated a lot of time for writing, while enjoying some Gilmore Girls and one of those single-servings of Haagen Daz ice cream.

Saturday included my mom and I arriving to the outlets an hour before they opened due to a scheduling conflict- two sources online providing conflicting hours. It was quite a productive day of the best sort- clothes!- but shopping is also exhausting so I wasn’t looking to do anything extravagant that night.

To relax, I went to see Mockingjay, the latest Hunger Games films with my cousin Mikey. Let me tell you, I was not a huge fan of the third book because I found big parts of it to be boring and I had a problem with how the heroine acted through it, but this half of the book was exciting on screen! I think I hit Mikey at one point because I was so nervous. It was a fun night that started with dinner and funny times. Sorry you had to miss it, cough Erin and Jimmy.

To end my Saturday, I got into another strong roll of my writing and went to bed later than I should have. When it flows, you can’t stop writing!

Sunday, I woke up and got right to work after breakfast. In college, Sundays were always my organization and homework day. I am big into production, however nerdy that might seem. This fascinating day included folding laundry and introducing my closest to my beautiful new clothes. After, I got things organized for the week, including chopping up a ton of veggies to be thrown into lunches and dinners with ease. Prepping as much food on Sunday makes things a ton easier throughout the week. One of the biggest downfalls to healthy eating is convenience. Sometimes eating healthier takes more time or will be ignored if you have a choice between options right in front of you. So I make it convenient when I have the time! While digesting my lunch before my workout, I got in even more writing time.

Listen, I am a big fan of rest, relaxation, and a touch of laziness, but sometimes productive days just hit the spot!

Here’s to a great week! Gobble gobble.
