You Can’t Face Swap With Your Dog

Hello party people, it’s Friday! The weekend forecast isn’t looking too promising come Sunday, but I am determined to be positive and have a great weekend.

I have some weird stories and pictures to share with you all today, so I hope you cherish the ridiculous. First, I woke up later than I wanted to on Wednesday as I was covering for someone at work and had to eat breakfast on the go. This is all well and fine, except, I was hankering for waffles and thought they could be portable if I ate it more like a piece of toast than cut up in usual waffle-style. I’ve actually done this before, so I was feeling good until I must have over maple syruped the waffles and the maple syrup dripped everywhere! My steering wheel may never be the same, nor will the inside of my jacket sleeves. I also smelled like maple syrup the rest of the day. Yay, me! *I could have smelled a lot worse!

A couple of nights ago, I finally realized how to use the face swap filter on Snapchat and it did not disappoint- except that I’ve been trying to face swap with my dog and it won’t work. Here’s option one between my mom and me.

Kinda spooky, not at all flattering, but overall hilarious.

Second option, I can’t even preface:

I kept some of my childhood dolls over the years and decided to have some fun yesterday morning to see if it would work. It did, except, as you can see, my face maintained that weird, creepy smile so everything just went bananas. I disturbed myself with this photo. I’m sorry if you have nightmares tonight!

Now onto a workout recap! This week was 3 sets of 15 reps for each exercise with lower weight and it kicked butt! I used the same workout plans I did the past two weeks, six exercises for each body part, so the breakdown looked like this:

Monday- Biceps, Shoulders, and Core

Tuesday- Rest

Wednesday- Triceps, Chest, and Core

Thursday- Back, Legs, and Core

Friday- Total Body

For today’s workout, I incorporated a ton of moves with kettlebells and plyometrics, which means I really got that heart rate moving! I will be sharing that with you soon! On Wednesday, I also ran and will be heading out for another one tomorrow before the weather gets bad.

Next week’s reps and sets will be pyramid-focused so I’ll start at my highest amount of reps with lowest weight, decreasing the reps and increasing the weight as I go until I’m lifting my heaviest for 2 reps. I like to mix up the reps and sets to keep from plateauing and working my muscles in different ways. For instance, lower weight and longer reps works endurance, heavier weight and lower reps is what builds that strength and power.  Already feeling a little scared, but also excited.

Get moving this weekend and make sure you spend a lot of time with the people you love!

Fit Life

Let’s talk workouts! I’ve been going back and forth with how to split my routine throughout the week and I think I came up with the dynamic that works best for me.

*Please forgive the rattiness of the paper in which my workouts are scrolled. It’s been through a lot this week and its appearance cannot be helped.

This week of workouts started on Sunday with some bicep and shoulder action. As last week included six sets of eight- sometimes a drag- this week was four sets of twelve reps so we were focused on endurance and power! Performed in circuit fashion, I did six exercises of each muscle group before continuing on for the next three sets. After my biceps and shoulders had their fill, I moved onto core exercises, which I try to do every day.  For cardio, I had walked with my mom and the dog beforehand, so I headed out.

IMG_5031.JPG

On Monday, it was time for the triceps and chest! Similar set up for this round: six exercises for each muscle group, four sets, twelve reps. Burn! More core work followed up with cardio- heavy ropes, tabata style, and a few minutes on the row machine.

Day Three brought us to the leg and back portion of the week. I like the combination of legs/back especially when it comes to deadlifts and bent-over rows because those muscle groups are working hard together to get the exercises done. The difference in this day is that I did not perform each exercise circuit style, but completed all sets and reps of one before moving on. It takes more time, but the set up on these are more complicated than just grabbing a kettlebell or a pair of dumbbells as I had to fix up the barbells and the cables, running all over the gym. I did finish the core part via circuit and got some good jump roping time in there.

IMG_5030.JPG

Today was run day and the weather was spectacular! It’s 70 degrees in early March, no snow or ice on the ground, and I can’t help but feel a little giddy. I snapped these pictures mid-run, so go ahead and be impressed!

IMG_5034.jpg

Since it was so nice, I wanted to extend the run and make it a little more special. I haven’t run around the lake since early fall when I was trekking out for 6.25-10 miles on the regular. As you might remember, I had to cut back because my muscles were overexerted, causing my feet to fall asleep! I’ve kept it to about four miles ever since, but the push felt nice today! 6.25 miles overall!

Look at this view!

IMG_5033.jpg

The very worst part of this workout was the final climb back home. I walked it and it’s all uphill and after a long run, I was struggling. Phew! Happiness and a little bit of pain is pretty much the grounds for a solid run!

Since I’m nice, I’ll also give you a sneak peek of Thursday’s total body workout. This one is kettlebell and plyometric heavy and I’m already feeling tired! I tried to incorporate some compound movements into the routine as well. We’ll see how well that jump roping and sprints come out at the end.

Friday will include some kind of cardio and then Saturday is a much-deserved rest day!

Happy exercising! If it’s nice out, take it outside, even if it’s just for a walk!

True Life: Sometimes I’m A Slob :(

Whoops! This posted before it was ready. This is what happens when I’m super organized and have it written and scheduled for the day ahead.

I want to first mention how sad I am to hear about Alan Rickman’s passing. I didn’t know David Bowie as much, but I know he was a fixture of so many people’s lives. With Alan Rickman, he brought a character to life so beloved in my memory, Snape, and my childhood, that I can’t help but mourn. RIP to the both of them.

I’m embarrassed to admit that my room is not the tidiest and coziest it can be. To the outside world, I am an organized person. I made two different versions of flashcards when studying for my test. I used to rewrite my notes from school. My calendar is in both written and wireless formats.

I just also have a terrible tendency to drop my clothes where they are, in part (and this sounds horrible, I know) because I have too many clothes filling my closet.

Listen. Okay. When I first got my office job over a year ago, I went ham at the store thinking I needed all of these clothes. And then I was making money to buy more clothes. And I wore such cute outfits (in my opinion) for the eight or so months I was working in the office.

Then, spoiler alert!, I quit that office job to start working in a gym that requires a somewhat bland uniform of black pants and a white or black shirt underneath a work-mandated jacket. Now I only wear a handful of the clothes in my closet along with exercise outfits and I won’t complain, especially if that’s really the only complaint I can offer, but my closet is kind of a sad place right now. All of those pretty and fancy clothes (so many dresses) just sitting there. So yeah, sometimes the not so pretty and fancy, but very well-worn clothes get tossed to the ground when I come home.

I’m sure one day I will find cause to wear them again, which is why I’m holding onto them, but I have donated certain items I won’t wear. So, in conclusion, this was a long-winded way of telling you that I need to do some organizing in my life.

It’s been a strange sort-of six months (seems longer and not long at all somehow), what with studying and passing my Personal Training test and now transitioning into that career, while figuring out where and who I want to be (but isn’t that just life?) Since graduating from college, I’ve found my life to flash in a series of unsettling moments and constant changes, but I know this is not a bad thing. It’s just a different thing, less comfortable. But when I feel a little (note, a lot) insecure about the happenings of my life and I allow the little details that I can control slip, I start to feel much more hectic than I should.

Long story short, I’ve got to pick up those damn pants and clean out my closets (I know, I’m the worst), and straighten myself out. Scary, fun, amazing, challenging, difficult, and inspiring things are happening, if only I keep a clear mind, heart, and soul.

You’re “welcome” for the rant, but I think most people just come to see the food.

We’ll start with last night’s dinner. Chicken cacciatore with whole wheat pasta, peppers, zucchini noodles, and asparagus. So.Tasty.

We move onto this morning’s breakfast of this Champion. I can call myself a Champion sometimes because if not, who else would?

IMG_4829.JPG

The workout of the day will consist of Zumba taught by a friend! Followed up with some kickass kettlebell training I’ve strung together.

Happy and healthy living! Don’t be a slob (like me)!

Sometimes We Do Go Out of Style, Tay

I may be shamelessly mentioning Taylor Swift in my blog post and title to garner more attention, but it also makes for a witty start. As you can tell, I’ve just revamped the outline of GMMCA (I’m trying to make this stick) because it was time for a change. New year, new design!

My offering to you today comes in the form of many food pics.

Lots of leftovers were to be had as I show off my lunches and dinners of days past. Sadly, I missed out on breakfast this morning (gasp!) because I woke up later than I should and had to be somewhere early. My body is still thrown off about it, mostly because breakfast is my favorite meal of the day.

Workouts for the past few days included some strength with core work and cardio on the elliptical, a kettlebell strength workout with a friend and a walk/run session, and a much needed rest day today!

At the moment, I’m working on some writing and in the process of dyeing my hair which is never fun.

I also feel it important to point out to you all that I lost the heel to my boot at my aunt and uncle’s house and didn’t even notice until my aunt texted and was like, “hey, anyone lose a heel?” Ummm…I totally noticed that something was strange when I wore them a few days ago, but I didn’t even think to check.

I’m the Maid of Honor, B*tch

I had a dream last night that a man stole my sister’s “precious” graphing calculator and we were all stressed out about it. Like, she was really upset. So I hunted the man down, doing a stakeout and everything and I took him down with a taser. Over a graphic calculator, while screaming “I’m the Maid of Honor, Bitch!” After, everyone congratulated me and I would tell them, “I’m just being a good Maid of Honor.”

Dream interpretation anyone? I’ll go first. I think it’s clear that I am not recuperating from the wedding being over. It’s been a rough few months since.

On another note, I ate a peach and didn’t die. Oh? You do this on the regular? Well then you must not have a pitted fruit allergy that precludes you from eating juicy, delicious peaches. I was tentative, but persevered and turns out, I didn’t show any symptoms. Yay me!

I also really understand the Nervous System. Listen, I’ve been stuck on the “Basic Human Science” chapter for awhile now with my Personal Training studying because I am terrible at science. It’s been quite the process but now that I have a grasp on it, things are going well. I would go as far as to say that today’s moment of strength came from studying and realizing that I actually grasp the concepts. In part, this is due to proof that hard work and diligence show results. It’s also just really cool and important to understand how the body works, how complex it is, and how important it is that we treat our bodies the right way. I might be taking it a bit too far, however, because on my way to work today, I yelled at a smoking woman for damaging her muscle spindles. We were both in our cars and she couldn’t hear me, but I know she felt it.

Let’s talk about the food for the day! Breakfast was this quick homemade waffle. I smeared peanut butter and jelly all over it and enjoyed with a bowl of berries.

IMG_3840

It was excellent fuel for my workout today, which included a kettlebell circuit, a medicine ball circuit, and a plyometric circuit and ended with sprints. I’ve never run so hard (on the treadmill) as I did today and even though my workout was killer, I felt powerful. Nothing better than that feeling!

Lunch was leftover pizza from last night’s dinner. I chopped up a bunch of celery and peppers, along with some carrots, that I dipped in some ranch dressing to go along with the slices.

IMG_3841

As I mentioned, I had a peach a little while later and I lived to tell about it.

The rest of the day was filled with studying and working. Before I left, I had a cup of Greek yogurt with some grapes to tide me over until dinner. My body was overheated from sitting outside and the yogurt was actually really refreshing.

When I got home from work, I heated leftover ravioli with a couple of chicken meatballs and a stir fry of veggies.

All good here! Hope everyone has a lovely Friday!

Homemade It Up!

Well, hello there!

Let’s start off with yesterday’s source of strength. For my workout, I ran outside and it just happened to be as it was growing dark, so the beautiful moonlight shone over me. It took me awhile to get into things because I was on the track and feeling a little bored, but as it got darker, I felt stronger, so I was able to push myself through my four miles. I actually would have been able to run longer had I not had to pee (!), but I sprinted the last leg of the lap and have never in my life ran so hard. I felt like I was flying and it was an amazing thing!

My lunch yesterday was a product of me feeling creative. I put a salad together, poached two eggs, and enjoyed them altogether. I also had a slice of cinnamon raisin toast to top things off. It was quite tasty!

Dinner after my moonlit run was pizza and salad. I guess I was so excited about it that I forgot to snap a picture. I’m pretty sure you know what it looks like.

I woke up this morning with a hankering for waffles, but I decided to go the homemade route. It was really easy because of the Kodiak Cake mix, which is an all natural pancake/waffle mix. All I needed to do was add water. For a little spice, I added in some cinnamon to the batter. I topped the waffles with a little butter and syrup. Blueberries and bananas were my fruit source and for some protein, I had a cup of Greek yogurt with a spoonful of peanut butter and some grapes. This is my favorite yogurt flavor! How pretty are those waffles?!

Harry Potter is always creeping in the corner in this house.

Breakfast was followed by a great workout. I started with a kettlebell circuit and performed three sets of sixteen reps each. The moves were swings, goblet squats to high pulls, tricep push backs, shoulder to knee presses, kickback rows, and weighted step ups. I moved onto some medicine ball workouts, also three sets of sixteen reps. This circuit was side lunges with arrow chops, wall tosses with split squats, wall rotations, mermaid raises, elevated hip lifts, and Russian twists. I was sweating hard by the time I hopped into the pool for a half hour lap swim.

Before heading off to work, I had some leftovers for lunch. I finished off my chickpea medley and a little bowl of macaroni and cheese. Delicious!

Now off to grab some dinner and spend some quality time with my textbook. Cheers!

It’s The Freakin’ Weekend

I’m obsessed with Buffy the Vampire Slayer. It has it’s cheesy moments, but it is just so good and addicting. Good television does this. It’s silly to be thankful for Netflix, but I am so thankful and yet furious it exists all at once because all I want to do is watch!

I am ready for the weekend to begin, mostly because I want to sleep. I hope it rains, at least on Saturday or Sunday morning, so I can snuggle under my covers and enjoy it. It’s not fun waking up to the alarm with the pouring rain and knowing I have to go out in it.

It was, thankfully, not raining on Thursday morning when I got up and ready for my daily gym grind. I tried a different strength workout that incorporated body strength and kettlebell moves. I only had time to do two sets of twelve reps before I made it down to the pool for my mile swim. Like I always say, I’m obsessed with swimming. Since I’ve been doing it regularly again, I haven’t suffered from such joint or muscle pain.

I came home for a breakfast of Greek yogurt with blueberries and a bowl of raisin bran. I’ve been terrible at snapping pictures lately! I did remember to get one of this delicious omelet I made for myself for lunch. Along with a salad, it was divine!

Dinner was something a little different. Tacos made with turkey meat, tomatoes, peppers, lettuce, jalapeños, and shredded cheese. A dollop of sour cream and salsa accompanied it with a side of spinach. Tasty, yet light, satisfying meal!

When I got home from work, I went out for a long walk. It was refreshing to be back out in the sunshine! After, I sprayed this disgusting smelling spray around my garden that is harmLESS to animals, but keeps their little paws and jaws off my zucchini plants!
