Fun Weekend Things

Welcome back from the weekend! I hope it treated you right and that Monday is doing the same.

My weekend started early Friday afternoon when I got off work and headed to a local amusement park with my mom. I’m not a huge daredevil in real life, but I do love a thrilling roller coaster!

On Saturday, I started my day with this egg roll-up stuffed with scrambled eggs, bell peppers, mozzarella, and turkey pepperoni for a total of 3 points.

I spent a good chunk of the day reading a mystery I couldn’t put down! For once, I wasn’t disappointed by the ending and it was a solid page-turner. I did tear myself away to fit in a great workout I was really feeling.

Doing a lot of barbell work, I focused on heavy weights 3 sets of 10 reps and did 100 jumps on the jump rope after each exercise. 5 upper body exercises, 5 lower body, and 2 core, which totaled to 1200 jumps! I enjoyed mixing the strength and cardio because it kept things moving and didn’t feel tedious. I also worked up a good sweat.

For lunch, I heated up some chicken and veggie potstickers with lots of veggies- bell peppers, broccoli slaw, and bok choy- with a touch of hoisin sauce. Altogether, the meal was 7 points.

I headed down to the park to meet up with my sister and her family and spent some quality baby time. She was feeling the not-so-hot weather and promptly napped.

By dinner time, I was hungry! I grilled up chicken and veggies and splurged with some whole wheat pasta. I mixed everything with a lighter alfredo sauce and a sprinkling of cheese for a total of 13 points!

Since it’s the weekend and I had most of my weekly points remaining, I very much savored some ice cream, while watching a movie- Table 19- which didn’t get great reviews but was free on HBO. I actually thought it was cute.

Sunday morning started with a cheese omelette, piece of toast, and raspberries.

Then it was time for a muggy run! 3.1 solid miles of sweat.

The rest of the afternoon was spent celebrating my Grandma’s birthday. It was nice to spend time with family and celebrate the day.

Happy birthday, Grandma!

Monday Snow Day

Oh hey, it’s the second day of Spring and we’ve got…SNOW! It was a fairly pleasant day welcoming Spring yesterday, but a bit on the chilly side. However, the family came over for dinner and we spent some time outside playing Spike Ball. I was a bit rusty, but not as bad as I expected. Here’s a nice action shot:

But now:

I started the weekend off on Friday with an awesome total body workout that kicked my butt! It was the same set up as last week with 3 sets and 15 reps and by the time I was done, I was ready to face the day. After work on Friday, I enjoyed a big hunk of a salad with honey BBQ steak tips while watching the Amy Poehler and Tina Fey movie Sisters. I really wanted to like the movie because I love them, but I just didn’t. I didn’t laugh out loud once. Cue sad face here!

Saturday started early with work. I love that Daylight Savings Time provides more sunshine towards the end of the day, but when you have to wake up early in the morning, it can be a tad painful. All good though! Once I finished, I headed out to lunch with my parents and grandma and a visit over to BB & the P’s house. Before the sun set, I had time to fit in a quality run outside and was feeling strong. I’m already noticing those few pounds I’ve lost has made a huge difference to my runs. Saturday night, I went over to my sister’s house for a meal of leftovers and a throwback film: She’s All That. I also spent some quality time with my nephew and realized that some Snapchat filters work on him:

Too cute!

On Sunday, I started off the day with a great workout. It’s pyramid training week, which I described last week, so it’s fast-moving and hard! Feeling pretty strong (and sore) today! I also mentioned the family dinner and some Spike Ball and there was a scary moment when I tripped in a hole and rolled my ankle. Before bed, I put some ice on it and elevated my leg and there’s no soreness at all this morning, phew!

With the snow falling (and already starting to melt, yay March!), I made myself a delicious breakfast this morning.

It was also weigh-in day and I’m happy to report that I’m down another 1.4 pounds, which brings me to a total of 5 pounds lost since I started two weeks ago! The incredible part of this is it’s all been in my stomach, which is just convenient!

Please pardon the state of my hair. It’s a snow day kind of morning.

Feeling good so far! If you’re trying to lose weight as well, remember, it’s not all about the scale. Weigh in once a week, but try to focus on the way you’re feeling, from your health benefits, the way your clothes fit, and if you like to take measurements. Anything you do, from eating healthier to exercising more, is benefiting your body and mind, regardless of what the scale claims. Keep at it and stay positive!

Heat Wave Means Lots of Ice Cream

Before I recap the weekend, I want to start by wishing my Grandma a very happy birthday. It was yesterday, but I don’t think she’d mind a little belated cheer. She is one of the greatest, smartest, and kindest women I know. She is the head of our family and its life source. Not all families are friends. Ours is and it’s because of her. She may not be happy about this picture, but I think it’s worth it. Happy birthday, Grandma!

Now for the weekend. On Friday, I went and saw Trainwreck with my friend Molly. I am a huge Amy Schumer fan, as I’ve mentioned before. I don’t usually enjoy romantic comedies because the endings are too happy and cheesy and cliche, but this was a smart one. It wasn’t just funny in a typical way. We tried to go to an earlier showing, but it was sold out all over the place, so we bought tickets ahead of time for a later one and got some dinner. The best salmon over some greens.

A little ice cream after. I went for a different flavor this time around, which came as a bit of a surprise because I didn’t think I would like it. Blueberry Oreo. It tasted a little like Black Raspberry and it wasn’t too sweet.

On Saturday, I got my day started with some pancakes.

Later on in the day, we went out to lunch for my Grandma’s birthday. After starting with a salad, I chose stuffed shrimp with steak tips and a baked potato. I was pretty much done by the time I remembered to take a picture.

In the afternoon, I hung outside for a little while in the sort-of sun and just relaxed. As the sun began to go down, I headed out for a run that was sweaty and buggy, but a great workout! For the rest of the night, it was nice to put my feet up and relax with a little Netflix.

On Sunday, I started with some scrambled eggs and toast. It was a hot day and I was sweating while eating. I couldn’t even finish my coffee.

In the afternoon, my friend Katie stopped by for a quick swim before we went out for the day. Our first stop was lunch at a Mexican restaurant. I had chicken and veggie fajitas, minus the tortillas because I had chips instead, with a side of rice and refried beans. Delicious, but super filling! After a little walking around and shopping, we stopped for an ice cream. It was National Ice Cream Day! I had my favorite flavor, peanut butter cookies ‘n cream. When I got home, my sister and her husband were over and we spent the rest of the evening talking and laughing. After another, but very small ice cream (it was National Ice Cream Day!), I came home and had a hot dog for dinner.

For breakfast on this very hot morning, I didn’t want to put too much effort into making anything. I went with a very quick and easy egg and chicken sausage sandwich with a bowl of grapes and a banana on the side.

Now it’s time to kick off the day with some work and a workout. Happy Monday!
