Perfect Summer Weekend

Hi! I hope the weekend was glorious! We had great weather all the way through, even though rain was threatening on Saturday.

After work on Friday, I fit in a sweaty total body workout with a little dose of cardio at the end. When I got home, my sister and her family came over to hang outside and I got some quality auntie time.

I was woken early and abruptly on Saturday by a cat who was ready to seize the day, but once I set him loose, I fell back asleep until almost 10am. I guess I needed my rest!

When I was up for good, I started the day with two poached eggs on a whole wheat toast and a big bowl of watermelon.

As I digested and hydrated, I watched an episode of Safe on Netflix. I started it on Thursday and was dismayed that I only had time to watch one episode. I was hooked from the start!

I tore myself away from the screen long enough to crush a 3.1 mile run. It was super hot, but my usual trail is shadowy and there was a nice breeze to guide me through. My legs felt strong!

IMG_4849

Upon my arrival home, I jumped in the pool to cool down- much needed- and dived into this Greek salad with chicken. Perfect fuel to re-energize. It looks a little bland because of the blanket of dressing, but I promise there was a load of veggies underneath, including baby spinach, bell peppers, carrots, cucumber, and tomato!

IMG_4851

My mom and I went grocery shopping in the afternoon to prepare for the week- lots of healthy choices! On Weight Watchers, it’s good to mix things up so we don’t get sick of certain foods and turn to less than great options.

I settled down to finish Safe- there were only eight episodes- and was sad, but satisfied when it ended. I sort of predicted the ending by the penultimate episode, but I wasn’t disappointed.

For dinner, I grilled up some shrimp in blackening seasoning, lime juice, teriyaki sauce, and sriracha and they were so good! I threw them atop two corn tortillas with bell peppers, broccoli slaw, and a dollop of sour cream mixed with the same ingredients as the shrimp. Note to remind myself to do this more often, maybe with Greek yogurt! Such a little detail added so much flavor to my meal! I also had a few chips to round out my meal.

IMG_4852

I assume this meal would pair well with cold beer or a tequila beverage of some sort, but I was saving my extra calories for some Saturday night ice cream! What can I say, your girl’s got a sweet tooth.

The rest of the night, I watched the Red Sox and played hard with my main dude. He’s been very busy lately and is constantly on the prowl. Of course, I mean the Sim-dude.

On Sunday, I was up early to hit the beach! We got breakfast to start off the day. Two eggs over easy with whole wheat toast and a big bowl of fruit. My mom shared a slice of bacon with me too.

IMG_4854

My favorite part about the beach is going in the water. It was chilly, but the waves enticing, and we stayed in for quite awhile twice.

IMG_4855

I think that’s actually a person’s Shoulder and not my thumb. And no visit to the beach is complete without some ice cream. It’s all part of healthy living!

Fun Weekend Things

Welcome back from the weekend! I hope it treated you right and that Monday is doing the same.

My weekend started early Friday afternoon when I got off work and headed to a local amusement park with my mom. I’m not a huge daredevil in real life, but I do love a thrilling roller coaster!

IMG_4740

On Saturday, I started my day with this egg roll-up stuffed with scrambled eggs, bell peppers, mozzarella, and turkey pepperoni for a total of 3 points.

IMG_4741

I spent a good chunk of the day reading a mystery I couldn’t put down! For once, I wasn’t disappointed by the ending and it was a solid page-turner. I did tear myself away to fit in a great workout I was really feeling.

Doing a lot of barbell work, I focused on heavy weights 3 sets of 10 reps and did 100 jumps on the jump rope after each exercise. 5 upper body exercises, 5 lower body, and 2 core, which totaled to 1200 jumps! I enjoyed mixing the strength and cardio because it kept things moving and didn’t feel tedious. I also worked up a good sweat.

IMG_4742

For lunch, I heated up some chicken and veggie potstickers with lots of veggies- bell peppers, broccoli slaw, and bok choy- with a touch of hoisin sauce. Altogether, the meal was 7 points.

IMG_4744

I headed down to the park to meet up with my sister and her family and spent some quality baby time. She was feeling the not-so-hot weather and promptly napped.

IMG_4746

By dinner time, I was hungry! I grilled up chicken and veggies and splurged with some whole wheat pasta. I mixed everything with a lighter alfredo sauce and a sprinkling of cheese for a total of 13 points!

IMG_4747

Since it’s the weekend and I had most of my weekly points remaining, I very much savored some ice cream, while watching a movie- Table 19- which didn’t get great reviews but was free on HBO. I actually thought it was cute.

Sunday morning started with a cheese omelette, piece of toast, and raspberries.

IMG_4751

Then it was time for a muggy run! 3.1 solid miles of sweat.

The rest of the afternoon was spent celebrating my Grandma’s birthday. It was nice to spend time with family and celebrate the day.

Happy birthday, Grandma!

On the Beach

It’s Monday, I’m back from my vacation, but instead of feeling down, I’m feeling revitalized! A vacation was much needed and there’s no better remedy than time away on the beach!

Ok, so this wasn’t the exact beach, but it’s still a picture of me at the beach.

Last week, I worked Monday and Tuesday and took off early morning on the Fourth to head to my cousin and uncle’s house on the beach. Look who got to come along thanks to the heat wave!

Simba did an excellent job adapting to his new beach house and spent a majority of his time exploring and staring outside at all the animals.

Much of the afternoon on the Fourth was spent at the beach and it was HOT. There was a breeze when we started and the water was refreshing, but once we went to dry off, the breeze disappeared. I love reading on the beach, but there’s only so much heat this girl could take, so we headed back to shower and attend a lovely BBQ at a friend’s place.

The night was capped off with some fireworks, as the Fourth of July should. I don’t adore fireworks, especially amateur ones, but the view sure was pretty.

On Thursday, my brother and I cooked up some breakfast to get us started on the day. We spent much of the morning relaxing but when the boys went golfing, the rest of us headed to the beach. Since it wasn’t as hot, I was able to run the 1.25 mile and felt good! I didn’t end up going in the water this time, but I did take a nice walk on the beach and spent some quality time reading!

After a refreshing shower and nice cocktail hour, we went into town for dinner. Pizza was on the menu, as we dined outside by the fire pit! We capped things off with a beverage before calling it a night.

The rain came in on Friday, but we were still able to walk around a local town. We got lunch and headed back to pick up Simba and go home. It was a lovely time!

It was nice to still have the weekend as a buffer after vacation. On Friday afternoon, I fit in a heavy barbell and jump rope workout to combat all the indulgences of the week. For dinner, I enjoyed shrimp tacos, caught up on work, and watched Game Night, which was cute.

Saturday morning called for a run! I crushed 3.1 miles and hopped right into the pool after because even though the intense heat abated a bit, the sun was still hot! I spent a good deal of time reading before my sister and her family came over to enjoy the afternoon. We ate dinner, passed around the baby, and relaxed.

IMG_4646.JPG

On Sunday, I was up early to grocery shop and came home to make a veggie omelette for breakfast. After, I did a body strength circuit workout with jump roping intertwined. I was nice and sweaty after and once again ready to hop into the pool.

The afternoon consisted of reading, writing, and catching up on household things.

How was your weekend?

I’m Allergic to Apples But I Still Eat Them

A real daredevil I am…

My weekend started early Friday afternoon when I got off work and finished up a killer workout. I ate lunch and cuddled up on the couch watching old episodes of Will and Grace with this guy.

IMG_2225.JPG

That night, I went out to dinner with some work friends before heading to bed and preparing for another early morning at work.

Once I finished work on Saturday morning, my friend Stephanie picked me up to see our other college friends Erin and Katie. It’s been awhile since the four of us got together and we had a blast apple picking, laughing, and chatting.

IMG_2241.JPG

And eating apples… I’m slightly allergic, so I stuck to one and felt fine. Erin for the photobomb win!

IMG_2244.JPG

Even though it was not quite a fall day (hot!), we enjoyed being outside and snacked on apple cider donuts.

IMG_2245.JPG

That night, a few of us saw It, which was creepy and a little confusing, but fun! I’m ready for the Halloween season!

Sunday started like this.

IMG_2256.JPG

Kittens apparently do not have sense of personal space.

After grocery shopping with mom, I whipped up some french bread pizzas for a game day lunch.

IMG_2254.JPG

Both the Red Sox and Patriots had come-from-behind wins and though I’d prefer them just to do well from the beginning, those types of games are more exciting.

When the sun went down a bit and the air cooled, I headed to the track to fit in a 3-mile run. I started re-watching Big Little Lies because my mom hasn’t seen it yet and it’s still amazing.

Now we’re back to Monday- make it a great one to kick off this week!

…And we’re back to Monday! It happens fast, doesn’t it? My Mondays don’t really start until the end of the day, so I can’t complain!

After work on Friday, I fit in a total body crusher workout, which killed extra since I was sick all last week. I revamped my workouts to include more cardio every day and so far it’s been great (and sweaty)! That night, I went out for drinks with a few cousins and my brother and his girlfriend.

Saturday was an off day for me workout wise, but I started nice and early at work. It’s nice to work in the morning because once I was off, my weekend I did enjoy nap time with this dude.

We met up with our friend Katie after and headed into the city to attend a Greek Festival. Greek food is one of my favorite cuisines. I had a delicious gyro, an assortment of Greek desserts, and red wine.

On Sunday, it was game day. Though I’m more of a baseball fan, I like the camaraderie of football Sunday and I put together some guacamole.

And of course, plenty of time was spent with this dude.

weekend things

Sixteen years has felt like a lifetime and no time at all. Today, of course, marks the sixteenth anniversary of 9/11. It is a tragedy beyond scope of understanding and my thoughts remain with the victims and their families.

This time of year also marks the sixteenth anniversary of two important losses in my life, my Grandpa in July and my Nana just a few days ago. I was 11 when they passed and I’m going to be turning 28 in a few months. It seems so strange, how much time has passed, how much I have grown and changed and yet, how much I still miss them, not just on the anniversary, but every day.

My weekend started on Friday afternoon when I left work and headed out for a day with my mom. We shopped for wine, enjoyed lunch, and then relaxed the rest of the day. That night, I met up with some friends for dinner. It was so much fun to catch up, but unfortunately what I thought was allergies ended up being a full blown cold.

I made it through work on Saturday with a runny nose, sore throat, and stuffy ears, and even attempt a half hour on the bike, but spent the rest of the day curled up with this guy.

IMG_2141.JPG

Saturday night, I went over my friend Katie’s house with our other friend Stephanie where we made dinner and watched movies- The Lion King and Bad Grandpa.

IMG_2149.JPG

I probably shouldn’t have stretched my poor throat too far and I assure you my vocals were not up to par, but I had fun singing along to The Lion King anyway. Especially as my new kitten’s name is Simba…

On Sunday, it was shopping day. My mom, sister, and I headed up to the local outlets. My main purchase was new shoes. I got my running gait looked at and realized I have flat feet, so I needed special shoes. I’m excited to learn how much this affects my running!

IMG_2156.JPG

The other “big” purchase was a chewing toy for Simba. I’m not sure if kittens teeth, but he seems to need a sturdy toy in which to bite, that is not my hand! He loved the carrot and the box from my shoes.

IMG_2152.JPG

It was a low-key-ish weekend as I still try to fully recover from this cold. At the moment, the worst of it is a stuffed-up ear that’s throwing off my equilibrium a tad. Not fun, but I’m on the mend.

Happy Monday!

crazy cat lady

I can’t deny it. My kitten has taken over my world. He’s a cute, rambunctious little guy and I can already tell he’ll be trouble in the best of ways. On Friday night, we had a pal’s night in and relaxed watching The West Wing and playing with fake mice.

Samba likes to stretch out wherever I am.

IMG_2050.JPG

On Saturday, I worked in the morning and relaxed in the afternoon before heading out for a run.

IMG_2057.JPG

That night, I hung out with my friend Molly, and of course, this little guy.

IMG_2065.JPG

Sunday morning, I found myself hanging off the end of the bed and the kitten curled up in the middle of the bed, under the covers, save for his head where it was resting on my pillow. This is my world now.

That afternoon, we had a family BBQ and lots of relaxing before heading to the track for a run. After, I found my new phone screensaver.

I might be crazy, but isn’t he cute?
